AhliaUniversity has always believed in providing the best available state of the art resources to its students and faculty members. Library is a key department in any university that contributes significantly to the knowledge acquisition process of both students and faculty. Today’s libraries reach out to all its patrons on their desktops contrary to traditional physical libraries. Keeping this in mind Ahlia University has implemented a Digital Library to cater to all the needs of its students and faculties of both its colleges.
The library provides access to electronic journals and reference materials through three databases Computer Database, ABI Inform Global and Information Technology Case Studies covering the disciplines of Business & Management and Information Technology. The collection is an effective mix of over 1800 periodicals and 200+ case studies accessible by students via the internet anytime anywhere. Further to the periodical collection, the information centre also provides access to a collection of 3000+ e-books across the disciplines taught at the university, to keep the students in touch with current academic reference books. For general research, the Britannica Encyclopedia is available in electronic format for students to search through.
Ahlia University library is the first of its kind in the Gulf Countries to implement RFID technology based “Virtua” Library Management System. The RFID system provides for security of print and other circulatory material based on electronic chip technology that carries material information which is automatically fed into the Virtua software when a library transaction is made. Any attempt to bypass the system will let out a security alarm. The library’s mission is to provide 24x7 through the year access to patrons and strives to be the best virtual library in the Kingdom of Bahrain that uses the cutting edge technology to drive its knowledge acquisition process.
